About

First of all, my name isn't Jane - it's Amanda. I chose to add the name Jane to my brand as a way of encompassing and including all women. Bohemian and Gypsy describe the wandering and exploring sides of our souls. We are all Jane. We are all Bohemian. We are all Gypsies. We are seers of Beauty and seekers of Wisdom. Like wildflowers, we are Beautiful, Brave, Wild, and Free. My hope is that this brand empowers all of you to be your be-YOU-tiful selves.

Here on this blog you can find what I'm up to design wise as well as some random musings from my wandering gypsy soul. First of all, I'm totally in love with nature and animals. I'm also into some crafty herbalism and wildcrafting. Yoga is something that I've been practicing and studying as well. I'm definitely not advanced at it, but I'm working on it!

I began the Bohemian Gypsy Jane design brand back in 2012 after leaving the hustle and bustle of the corporate design world. I've had the same vision all along: to design things that truly make me happy. Whether it's the design elements, or a color combination, etc., the design had to come from some spark that resonated with me. I believe I've succeeded with that. It took some time to find my true design voice, but after that, I feel I've stayed true to myself. And now it's 2015 and I'm so absolutely overjoyed to be launching this beautiful line of headbands and boho goodies. I've been pouring my heart and soul into designing, testing, selecting the right materials, adjusting colors and ultimately trying to make everything just right. This new venture is truly the frosting on my design cake :)

I'm formally educated as a graphic designer, but I migrated towards surface pattern and textile design and absolutely fell in love. Textile design has been my main focus for the last couple of years. Bringing color and form and function all together is very gratifying work for me. I have an array of  fabric designs available on Spoonflower. This is a wonderful small company that has eco-friendly print on demand fabric thats made right here in the USA <3 Spoonflower is also the company that I use to make the fabric for my headbands!

My design style is heavily influenced by the Native American culture as well as nature, global/ethnic patterns, the mystical, and the whimsical even though I've been designing for several years, I still sometimes feel like I'm just now spreading out my design wings. There is so much more inside my head than what I've actually been able to express into reality. I hope that over the years to come that I will be able to birth more and more ideas into the physical world and I also hope that the new ideas never stop flowing into my head no matter how crowded it seems to get inside there!

I started imagining making physical products from my fabric designs not too long after diving into the textile world. I've always loved headbands, but I've had awful luck getting them to stay on, or if they did stay on, they were incredibly uncomfortable. I knew headbands would be a perfect product for me to make because of my design style. 6 months later after tons of trial and error and the help of a few friends daring to "test" wear my creations, I had the perfect headband design! One that is comfortable, soft, and stays on without elastic or ties or non-slip weird rubber-y stuff. Just the perfect fabric, the perfect cut, and the perfect stitch! I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to share them with you now!

Not long after opening my shop I added a couple of tee and tank designs. Bracelets and Malas came soon after that! I absolutely LOVE crystals and gemstones and the energies that they resonate and I've discovered that working with them is very calming and relaxing. Did you know that the stones "speak"? Oh, they do! You just have to listen.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey. I'm constantly striving to evolve and grow closer to living a life that aligns with my soul and I'm getting there! This journey has been zig-zaggy to say the least. I've not always been sure what direction I was heading and have sometimes been scared to take those leaps of faith. But, all in all I've trusted the process and trusted the path. Life is nowhere near perfect, but its becoming more and more perfectly mine - and THAT is the wish I have for each of you as well. May you find your path and confidently place one foot in front of the other. May your own special and unique light shine into this world with the beautiful radiance that is you.

Love and Light ~ Namaste ~ XOXO ~ Blessed Be
