The Art of Slowing Down - New Year 2016

First of all, my apologies for not being very active here on the blog lately. It's been a strange few months full of healing and lessons via what I'm choosing to believe was the powers that be telling me to slow down. There exists a law of energy that we just can't manipulate no matter how noble our intentions are. Using up our energies without taking the time to replenish them equals exhaustion, imbalance, and disease. This is exactly what I did in 2015. Months of work went into getting my shop up and running, running goals were a high priority and I ran my first half marathon, I had a hard time saying no to multiple custom design requests, all while working a day job that had me working more hours than I ever signed up for. Oh, and don't forget the kids, and cooking, and cleaning... Oh my, I'm tired just thinking about it. My point is... drumroll... there is something seriously wrong with the culture that encourages and applauds this sort of behavior. I now wholeheartedly believe the "superwoman" culture needs to stop. I'm definitely leaving it behind! I ended up not being able to get out of the clutches of illness for a good six months, and it wasn't until I decided to surrender to it that I started to slowly feel my body coming back to life. I needed to listen to what my body was saying, and it was saying "ENOUGH". After several weeks of rest and self nurturing I'm beginning to recover and I now have a sense of clarity that I didn't have before. I guess you could say that being sick was a gift. I honestly learned so much from the experience and I've essentially grown closer to my own authenticity and I have a clearer view of where I'm going personally and professionally... Well those two things are cosmically intertwined, but you get the picture.

I've been contemplating an intention for 2016, and I finally have one after not being able to come up with the right word. It took me awhile to realize that there wasn't a single word that encompassed what I was trying to express. The words came to me this morning and they seem to take the form of a mantra, so to speak.

I've spent the day creating this for myself and I would like to share it with all of you. Maybe my words will resonate with you as well. I've got the words "shine on" radiating strongly for a dear friend of mind, Renae. Happy New Year everyone! May it be filled with blessings, health, and happiness. XOXO
