Hey, It's Bat Week!

Hey Everyone, Happy Bat Week!

BGJ for the Wild Things and I are offering up a little instagram fun this week in honor of Bat Week! You could be the winner of $50.00 boutique credit for bohemiangypsyjane.com to use as you choose AND do something good for our fellow bats. The goal of bat week is for 5,000 bat houses to be put up in the US and Canada on October 31st. I want to help them meet this goal! You can build your own, or buy one like I did (you know, sometimes you're just busy :) It was recommended that we paint the top of ours white to reflect the sun since it gets rather hot in the summers where I live, so that part is done. I'll be hanging mine on October 31st. I'm actually really excited. I would love to see some bats move in!

Bats are fascinating creatures that carry a lot of folklore with them. Some people think they carry disease, some people are just plain afraid of them. Either way, there's no need for concern. Bats are very clean creatures and contrary to popular belief, less than 1% actually carry rabies. They won't bite you or your pets. They aren't aggressive like like. They're more afraid of you than you are of them. So, how about giving bats a chance to win your heart???

Bat Week is an annual, international celebration of the role of bats in nature. Bat Week is organized by a team of representatives from Bat Conservation International, Organization for Bat Conservation, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Wildlife Acoustics, Lubee Bat Conservancy and the Save Lucy Campaign.

So, here's what you need to do to be entered to win my bat week challenge:

1. Get, or build a bat house.
2. Take a picture of you and your bat house. (see mine below)
3. Follow me @bgj_bohemiangypsyjane and @savethebats on Instagram.
4. Post your picture on Instagram with #bgjforthewildthings, #batweek, and #savethebats.

Winner will be randomly chosen and announced on November, 1st!
